Bonvenon!

Mi ege feliĉas ke vi decidis esti parto de NASK 2006. NASK estas eksterordinara sperto: homoj el diversaj landoj kunvenas por vivi en Esperanto-komunumo dum tri semajnoj, malofta afero! Ĉi tie vi renkontos novajn (kaj malnovajn!) amikojn, plibonigos vian lingvo-kapablon, kaj lernos multon pri aliaj homoj kaj kulturoj.

Mi havas nur unu ĉefan konsilon, kaj ĝin mi konstante donas de jaro al jaro: parolu en Esperanto, tiel ofte kiel vi povas, kaj aŭskultu la parolon de aliaj. Hejme vi povas legi librojn kaj revuojn. Hejme vi povas studi vortojn kaj gramatikon. Hejme vi povas serĉi informojn en interreto kaj legi novaĵojn pri la Esperanto-movado. Sed nur en komunumo vi havas la okazon aktive uzi Esperanton ĉiutage, tuttage--en la dormoĉambro, en la manĝejo, dum la lecionoj, dum ekskursoj kaj vesperaj programoj . . . fakte, ĉiam, ĉie. Jen trezoro, kaj se vi silentos vi ne plene profitos.

Ne pensu, "Ho, mi ne bone parolas, mia prononco ne estas ĝusta, mi ne scias ĉiujn vortojn kiujn mi bezonas." Oni vere lernas paroli per parolado. Certe vi faros kelkajn erarojn. Ne gravas! Ju pli vi parolos, des pli vi kapablos paroli. (Kaj jen sekreto: eĉ kiam mi parolas la anglan, mian denaskan lingvon, mi foje faras eraron . . . )

Se vi ne scias ion, demandu . . . la aliaj kursanoj certe helpos vin, kaj la instruistoj povas helpi iam ajn, ne nur dum la lecionoj.

Atendas vin tri bonegaj semajnoj. Laboru, lernu, kaj ĝuu.

I am truly happy that you decided to be a part of NASK 2006. NASK is an extraordinary experience: people from different countries come together to live in an Esperanto community for three weeks, a rare event! You'll meet new (and old!) friends here, improve your language skills, and learn many things about other people and cultures.

I have one primary piece of advice, and I always give it from year to year: speak Esperanto as often as you can, and listen to others when they speak. You can read books and magazines at home. You can study vocabulary and grammar at home. You can find information on the internet and read new about Esperanto speakers at home. But only in a community do you have the chance to actively use Esperanto every day, all day--in your dorm room, in the dining hall, during the classes, on trips and in evening programs . . . in fact, always, everywhere. This is a treasure, and if you stay quiet you won't get the full benefit of it.

Don't think, "Oh, I can't speak very well, my pronunciation isn't right, I don't know all the words I need." You really do learn to speak by speaking. Of course you're going to make some mistakes. That's not important. The more you speak, the more you'll be able to speak. (Here's a secret: even when I speak English, my first language, I sometimes make a mistake . . . )

If there's something you don't know, ask. The other students will help you, and the instructors are available to help any time, not just in class.
